The Patriarch Vinceno Bracco was born in Torazzo,
Italy on March 14th, 1835. He finished his elementary education in his village
but later had to stop due to the poverty of his parents. As a result, they could not send
him to a college in order to continue his high school studies and he worked with them in
the fields. He managed to continue his theological studies in 1854 and enrolled into the
patriarchal clergy in 1860 and was appointed to be teacher of theology in the seminary in
Beit Jala.
In 1862, he became President of the college and after four years, he was named an Assistant Bishop, and was then appointed to be the Patriarch of Jerusalem on March 21st, 1873. During his term that lasted until 1889, eleven missions were established in Palestine and Jordan. He also brought 12 monastic orders into Palestine. The most important of these was the local Order of the Rosary Sisters which was to help the priests in parishes. The parishes at this time were as follows: from 1874 to 1898: Zababdeh, Fuheis, Kerak, Irmamin, Ar-Reineh, Rafidia, Gaza, Madaba, Husun, Anjara and finally Ajloun. |
