Social Services

The Social Services and Relief Department is a vital unit of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem that serves the neediest and marginalized families within its dioceses; Jerusalem, West Bank, Gaza, and Jordan.

The Mission of the department is driven by Christ's Love and Witness to those who suffer the most to support and encourage Christian families in the target areas to be steadfast in their home and the Holy Land. The services are open to Christians of all denominations that need the solidarity and support of the church during the difficult time and circumstances that they face. The mission of the department is achieved through close networking and cooperation with other Catholic Organizations. Furthermore, our work is focused on four main areas of support: educational fees of the youth and children, contributing towards costs of critical medical and medication interventions and providing urgent family support.

In addition to the humanitarian aid, the department reaches out through a special program to support families from east Jerusalem with their daily challenges related to social rights. Another program targets women in empowering them economically through helping them in setting up micro-businesses. The department also creates job opportunities for youth in Gaza through a special fund. And finally, in Jordan, the social department reaches out to many Iraqi refugees to support them with job creation and humanitarian aid.

The team of the Social Department is composed of one full-time social worker, a secretary, and a full-time director who work with all the clergy in different parishes to help them reach out to families across the different areas.
