United States Catholic Conference
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) was founded in 1943 by the Catholic Bishops of the United States to assist the poor and disadvantaged outside the country. It is administered by a Board of Bishops selected by the Episcopal Conference of the United States, and is staffed by men and women committed to the Catholic Church's apostolate of helping those in need. It maintains strict standards of efficiency and accountability. The fundamental motivating force in all activities of CRS is the Gosepl of Jesus Christ as it pertains to the alleviation of human suffering, the development of people and the fostering of charity and justice in the world. The policies and programs of the agency reflect and express the teaching of the Catholic Church. At the same time, Catholic Relief Services assists persons on the basis of need, not creed, race or nationality. Catholic Relief Services gives active witness to the mandate of Jesus Christ to respond to human needs in the following ways:
- By responding to victims of natural and man-made disasters.
- By providing assistance to the poor and to alleviate their immediate needs.
- By supporting self-help programs which involve people and communities in their own development.
- By helping those it serves to restore and preserve their dignity and to realize their potential.
- By collaborating with religious and non-sectarian persons and groups of good will in programs which contribute to a more equitable society.
- By helping to educate the people of the United States to fulfill their moral responsibilities in alleviating human suffering, removing its causes, and promoting social justice.

Pontifical Mission for Palestine
The Pontifical Mission for Palestine was created by Pope Pius XII in April 1949 to coordinate all the Catholic aid activities in favor of the Palestinian refugees and victims after the War of 1948.
Its services are very varied: charitable; medical (hospices, clinics, hospitals); educational and cultural, including aid to schools; help to charitable institutions for the blind, the deaf-mute, the aged; projects for human and community development; and Catholic libraries in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Amman. In 1971, it took responsibility for the operation of the Paul VI Ephpheta Institute for the deaf-mute in Bethlehem.

Secretariat of Solidarity
for Catholic Schools and Institutions
On August 12, 1977, at the request and recommendation of the members of the R.O.A.C.O. (Riunione Opere Aiuto Chiese Orientali), the Congregation for the Oriental Churches established the Secretariat for the Catholic Schools of the Holy Land under the direction of the Apostolic Delegate.
After the creation of the Assembly of the Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land in 1992, the Secretariat reviewed its authority:
- It transferred to the Ordinaries all matters directly involving the pastoral care of students as well as those pertaining to school and educational policies.
- It nevertheless remains an office dedicated to helping those Catholic schools and institutions that have recourse to its expertise.
On September 1, 1993, the name of the organization was changed to Secretariat of Solidarity for Catholic Schools and Institutions of the Holy Land. It depends directly on the Apostolic Delegation in Jerusalem and collaborates with the Apostolic Nunciatures in Israel, Jordan and Cyprus.
Activities of the Secretariat
- It collects annual statistics about the Catholic schools and institutions.
- It helps Catholic schools and religious institutions, through the intermediary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, to obtain the ordinary and extraordinary funding they need to operate, in collaboration with the National Offices for Catholic Schools.
- It supports the pastoral, educational, and charitable activities of the Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land.
- It helps poor young Christians to pursue their cultural and professional education in local universities and institutions of higher education.
