Initially he was taken to the Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center and there he was welcomed by his Beatitude Patriarch Michel Sabbah and the Nuncio, Antonio Franco.

A reception was then held in the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem on behalf of the Cardinal and was attended by the religious heads of churches. The Cardinal then paid a solemn visit to the Holy Sepulchre church where he was able to pray. Together with him were His Beatitude Patriarch Sabbah, Archbishop Fouad Twal, the Apostolic Delegate Archbishop Franco, the Knights of Holland and Germany, the local knights, the Lieutenant of England and Whales, in addition to some diplomatic figures.

At the church, the Cardinal stated that it was a special experience for him to come to the Holy and to visit the Holy Sepulchre Church, the spot in which Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was buried and from which He rose from the dead for our salvation. He thanked all who welcomed him and prayed for unity, peace and mutual respect. In the end of the day dinner was served by the Apostolic Delegation to the Cardinal, the Patriarch and all the Catholic Bishops.
