ACOHL shares joy in election of Bishop Yasser Ayyash as Melkite Patriarchal Vicar for Jerusalem

STATEMENT – The Assembly of the Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land extends its greetings to H.E. Bishop Yasser Ayyash, the new Melkite Patriarchal Vicar for Jerusalem, who was elected on Friday, February 9, 2018, by the Synod of the Melkite Catholic Church, to succeed Bishop Joseph Jules Zerey, who had reached the legal age.

The Assembly wishes Bishop Ayyash success in his new mission and expresses its gratitude to Bishop Zerey for the service he has rendered throughout the years.

Bishop Ayyash, born on February 4, 1955, in Shanta near Irbid, Jordan, and was ordained priest on July 2, 1987. He was consecrated bishop on October 13, 2007, after which he served as the Melkite Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan.
