NAZARETH – On Saturday and Sunday, February 24 – 25, 2017, almost a hundred children from the parish of the Annunciation in Nazareth received the Sacrament of Confirmation from the hands of Bishop Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo. It was the culmination of three months of careful preparation
A total of 92 children between the ages of 10 and 12 were confirmed in Nazareth during two ceremonies on Saturday, February 24 and Sunday, February 25. The children were divided into two groups of boys and girls, because of the large number and for the success of the celebration.
It was after three months of intense preparation that the young people presented themselves at the foot of the altar to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation from the hands of the Bishop of Nazareth. The catechism instruction was a weekly meeting every Wednesday afternoon where, for an hour and a half, a Sister each from the Rosary Sisters, Franciscan Sisters and St. Joseph Sisters, taught them with love and dedication in a manner suited to their young age, the message of the Gospel and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Both celebrations were presided by Bishop Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo, Patriarchal Vicar in Israel, assisted by Bishop Kamal Bathish, Patriarchal Vicar Emeritus; Fr. Amjad Sabbara, ofm, parish priest of the Annunciation and Fr. Zaher Aboud, ofm.
During his homily, Bishop Marcuzzo referred to the significance of the Sacrament of Confirmation and invited the children to “be witness Christ in their lives, in school, on the streets, at home, and to be always open to the other “. He explained to them why and how the Holy Oil was consecrated during the celebration of Holy Thursday.
After each ceremony, the newly confirmed celebrated with their families.
