JORDAN – On August 14, the eve of the Assumption, an evening was dedicated to the life of Saint Bernadette was organized giving parishioners of the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish the opportunity to discover in more detail the life of the saint and the message of Our Lady of Lourdes.
On the initiative of the parish priest, Father Rifat Bader, the film “My name is Bernadette”, was screed in the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the parish of Naour, a small town about twenty kilometers south of Amman.
The purpose of the project was to allow the parishioners, who have a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin, to familiarize themselves with the message of Lourdes and to discover the humble life of Bernadette Soubirous. At the end of the viewing, Father Bader explained the spiritual significance of the Lourdes’ apparitions.
The Naour parish of the Sacred Heart is indeed spiritually close to Our Lady of Lourdes because it is already recognized as an official member of the international family of Lourdes sanctuaries. Father Bader would also like the town of Naour to establish a twinning with that of Lourdes. A project is already being studies and discussions are underway for the realization of the project.
At the end of the event, the faithful, praying the rosary and asking the Virgin’s intercession, processed around the parish garden where a replica of the Lourdes sanctuary was constructed two years ago. It is the first sanctuary in Jordan and in the Diocese of Jerusalem (Palestine, Israel, Jerusalem, Jordan, and Cyprus) dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes.
