June 26, 2017

Letter from the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land

to the new Greek Melkite Catholic Patriarch,

His Beatitude Youssef ABSI

Your Beatitude,

The Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land express great joy on your election as Patriarch of the Greek Melkite Catholic Church of Antioch and all the East.  Alf Mabrouk, Sayyedna !

After a period of agonizing process, the Synod Fathers of your sui juris Church have chosen a new Father and Patriarch. The swiftness of your election has filled the desire in the hearts of all, clergy and faithful in: turning the page, looking towards a bright horizon, rekindling faith in Christ the Lord of history, finding ecclesial communion.

Beatitude,

We give thanks to the Lord, we convey our sincere, fraternal wishes and congratulations as we express our desire for ecclesial cooperation in a genuine evangelical, conciliar and synodal manner fully expressed in the Apostolic Exhortation Ecclesia in Medio Oriente.

You have the reputation of being a quiet man. We all know that discretion is the faculty of discernment that seeks to see clearly, to judge wisely and to act with prudence. You will certainly need it to reconstitute the ecclesial fabric, to work for reconciliation of minds, to alleviate the suffering of the peoples of the Middle East.

United with the faithful of our Churches, we express to you our closeness in prayer that sustains us and the fraternity that brings us closer together. Mabrouk.
