JERUSALEM – On Friday, April 1, 2017, the Apostolic Nuncio in Israel and Cyprus and Apostolic Delegate for Jerusalem and Palestine, Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto, celebrated the Golden Jubilee of his Ordination in the chapel of Notre Dame Center.
The Apostolic Administrator, Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa and former Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Antonio Franco concelebrated Mass with some bishops and about thirty priests and religious. Patriarch Emeritus, His Beatitude Michel Sabbah and more than 200 faithful came for this celebration: many religious representing the Churches in Jerusalem, members of the organizations and institutions active in the Holy Land: Caritas, Pontifical Mission and Secours Catholique. Choir of local faithful and Filipino migrants sang during Mass.
Archbishop Lazzarotto, who celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of his priestly ordination, was accompanied by twelve priests of his class, all ordained in 1967. The homily was delivered by one of them, Msgr. Luciano Carraro, in charge of one of the parishes in Padua, Italy. Full of emotions, he had to pause several times before its conclusion. At the end of the celebration, enthusiastic and heartfelt wishes were exchanged after the reading of the letter of congratulations from Pope Francis, and a festive gathering followed on the patio of the Notre Dame Center.
In preparation for the Jubilee, the jubilarians had a spiritual retreat facilitated by Archbishop Michael Fitzgerald at the Mount of Beatitudes. On this occasion, a Mass was celebrated at the Grotto of the Annunciation in Nazareth in the presence of the Patriarchal Vicar in Israel, Bishop Marcuzzo. The Latin Patriarchate celebrated this Jubilee with the Apostolic Nuncio on Holy Thursday.
