AMMAN – On August 15, all the parishes in Jordan enthusiastically celebrated ” the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary”, a major feast in Jordan, sometimes preceded for some Christians by the fast of the virgin, fasting 15 days before August15. In Amman, the parish of Saint Joseph and the parish of the Annunciation gathered for Mass followed by a concert, while the Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan, Bishop William Shomali, celebrated Mass in the parish of Marka, which was followed by praying of the Rosary.
Mary, woman of Faith …
At Jabal Luweibdeh, the parishes of the Annunciation and Saint Joseph joined together to celebrate the feast on August 15. Mass was celebrated by Bishop Maroun Lahham, Emeritus Bishop of Jordan. He focused on the Faith of Mary, who accompanied the entire apostolic life of Jesus, from the Wedding of Cana, the first miracle, to the Last Supper. “The greatest merit of the Virgin is her faith. In our lives, when trials come and we do not understand everything, we must also plunge into God, have this same Faith as Mmary’s. But this Faith is never against reason.” The Mass ended with a very beautiful Marian procession followed by a concert performed by the choir of the parish.
… and Joy!
Meanwhile, in Marka, Bishop Shomali highlighted the joy of Mary: a joy to which we are all called. “Elizabeth cannot believe her eyes as she welcomed the mother of her Lord. Mary exulted in God her Savior for the double maternity: her own and that of Elizabeth. John the Baptist leaped in his mother’s womb. Mary is a joyous person because she fulfills the will of God. She praises him for the wonders he has accomplished in her. Among these wonders: holiness from the beginning of her life and her bodily Assumption to heaven. What she got is a promise for us. We too, like Mary, are already called to joy in this life.”
