JERUSALEM - On Sunday, February 26, 2023, 11 lay people from the Filipino Chaplaincy were admitted to the Lectorate at the chapel of the Salesian Monastery of Ratisbonne by Abbot Nikodemus Schnabel, osb, Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Migrants and Asylum Seekers (VMAS).
The Lector, according to the General Presentation of the Roman Missal (PGMR), is allowed to pronounce the readings during the Mass (apart from the Gospel) and to prepare the prayer intentions. With the institution of a Lector, the Assembly acquires a competent person to carry out these liturgical acts, accomplished in an authentic process of faith and service.
That day, the 11 new lectors are women, carefully prepared for this lay ministry by Sr. Julita Sihaloho, of the Apostolic Delegation in Jerusalem. During the mass, they received a book of the Holy Scriptures from Abbot Nikodemus, exhorting them to always read them in faithfulness to God.
In great recollection, the whole assembly showed its joy for this event which recognizes the priestly dignity of every baptized person but also the precious contribution that the laity, including women, offer to the life of the Church and to its mission.
