On the evening of Tuesday, May 31st, while Jerusalem celebrated the end of the month of the Virgin Mary and the Feast of the Visitation with a procession in the Old City, the parishes of the diocese of Jerusalem marked the feast day with their own celebrations, which for a day enlightened the streets of their villages and cities.
In the Latin church of Shafa’amer, for instance, after a Holy Rosary and a Mass, celebrated by Father Elie Kurzum, the parish priest, and Father Ramez Twal, the faithful walked around the streets surrounding the church, in the presence of numerous people, while carrying a statue of the Virgin and singing hymns and prayers. The procession, which started from the Latin church and was headed by Fr. Elie Kurzum, Fr. Ramez Twal, Fr. Athanasius Haddad, parish priest of the Melkite Church, and Fr. Fouad Dagher, pastor of the Evangelical Episcopal Church, was also accompanied by the scouts of the city.
Meanwhile, in Beit Sahour, after a Mass celebrated by Fr. Issa Hejazeen, a procession was organized around a truck carrying a statue of the Virgin Mary, surrounded by all the faithful of the church...
... while in Jordan, in the parish of Zarqa North, Fr. Iyad Bader and his assistant vicar Fr. Salem Lolas celebrated Mass jointly with the Melkite community of the city. Afterward, the traditional procession took place, with the faithful carrying candles and surrounding the statue of the Mother of God.
