The Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) is a regional ecumenical institution that brings together the different Eastern churches. In 2022, from May 16th to May 20th, a 12th General Assembly was organized in Egypt, hosted by Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria. The meeting was attended by His Beatitude Mgr Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, and resulted, among other things, in the release of a final statement in which the heads of churches called for the protection of Jerusalem's holy sites.
