JERUSALEM – On Friday, October 20, 2017, the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem warmly welcomed his Eminence Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Congregation for the Oriental Churches, in the presence of the Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Bishop Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo, Fr. Hanna Kildani and Msgr Marco Formica and a delegation of religious men and women, priests and the employees of the Latin Patriarchate.
The welcoming ceremony started with a prayer in the Latin Patriarchate co-cathedral, followed by a meeting with His Eminence, where the religious men and women were able to ask different questions.
During his meeting with the Cardinal and the priests, Archbishop Pizzaballa spoke about the work of the Latin Patriarchate priests. “These priests are those who bring forward the life of the diocese, who implement the pastoral decision of the various councils and of the bishops, who organize and bring the people to the assemblies and to the meetings with their pastors, who are the visible presence of the Church .”
He also showed his appreciation of Cardinal Sandri’s visit to the Holy Land that represents “an encouragement and a consolation” to the Patriarchate.
On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Cardinal Sandri’s ordination, Fr. Firas Aridah, the Saint Joseph Parish priest in Jifna and the director of Endowments (Al Awqaf) at the Latin Patriarchate, presented him with a beaded stole.
At the end of the celebration, His Eminence encouraged the priests who serve in the holy places “to guard with special care your duty to remain close to the lord, intercede for those who are in need living in this world”.
