Florence, from Jerusalem

There are 4 Gospels, not one. The disciples are sent out two by two, not alone.

Our diversity, our specificities, are all chances to meet Jesus, because what will help me realize His presence will always be different from what will help my own children turn to Him. We are not exchangeable clones! In all these traditions, I see the sign of a very fatherly love of our God, who seeks, first and foremost, at any price, a personal relationship with each individual, and who is always waiting for us to respond to His love.

Here in Jerusalem, there are Churches, rites, and different practices by the dozen, like nowhere else. In this city, which teaches us brotherhood, relations are, on a daily basis, very cordial between the members of all these Churches, at all levels, with a great deal of empathy, true solidarity and, more than a mutual respect, a reciprocal esteem. In most Christian families in the Holy Land, there are often three or more different rites in two generations.

The resilience of certain Churches, which sometimes have always gathered only a hundred or so families over the centuries, is almost a miracle. Their presence with us today is a sign of Christ's love and care for all those who have recognized Him. It is truly a grace to be able to pray with and for each of them.

2,000 years after Jesus came, we are here to express our unity in the love we have for Him. Some might consider this to be the 'lowest common denominator', but it is all that will really matter when we will face Him at the end of our earthly life.
