Advent Spiritual Retreat for Catechists
“prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight” (Mk 1:3)
As we begin a new liturgical year, the spiritual journey in which we relive the wonders the Lord has done for all mankind and do our best to respond to His love. We begin this journey with the season of Advent, a season in which we recall the fundamental truth of Christ’s Second coming in glory, and we prepare to commemorate his first coming in the humility of the Incarnation. In order to be spiritually prepared for this journey, the Catechetical office of the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem organized a spiritual retreat for the catechists from Jerusalem and Palestinian territories, on Friday 27th Nov. 2009 in Bethlehem. Forty catechists from different Christian schools and regions were participated.
The main theme of the spiritual retreat was about saints’ pioneers in the field of education, especially Christian Education, such as: John De La Salle, saint mary alphonsine, Marie de villar. Who work hard during their lives to prepare a way for the Lord Jesus in the hearts and souls of children and young people. Their lives and teachings became an inspiration for all those who work in the field of Christian Education.
the day was opened with a contemplative prayer about the time of advent, and then a presentation on the lives of each of the saints, then the participants were divided into groups, where each group dealt with the educational approach of one of them and then presented it to the rest of the groups, and in the end the spiritual and educational lessons drawn from their experience in theory and practice. After that, a visit to the Milk grotto to celebrate the mass and finally a visit to the Church of the Nativity and the field of shepherds.
