JERUSALEM – On Tuesday January 10, 2017, the Latin Patriarchate received a delegation of Muslims and Christians from different Jerusalem organizations that specialize in Law, Advancement of Women and Social Action, who came to convey their greetings for Christmas and the new year.
During the meeting with H. E. Bishop William Shomali, some Patriarchate priests and employees, the delegation emphasized the strong commonalities shared by Muslims and Christians living in the Holy City and wished that Jerusalem would become a place of dialogue and understanding among religions.
Bishop Shomali thanked the delegation for the warm greetings and its efforts to strengthen the social cohesion in Holy City. The Patriarchal Vicar also spoke about his first visit to Saudi Arabia, a trip which was organized by the Jerusalem Endowment Fund (JEF), which included Mr. Munib Masri, Founder of the JEF; Sheikh Yousef Id’is, Minister of Al- Awqaf and Religious Affairs; Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, head of the Palestinian Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction (PECDAR) and others more. Bishop Shomali spoke as well about the positive meeting he had with King Salman bin Abdulaziz and the Prince of Riyadh, where the Bishop was given the opportunity to talk about the different life aspects of Jerusalem.
Another topic which was brought up was the upcoming meeting between His Holiness Pope Franics and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, which will see the opening of a Palestinian Embassy at the Vatican on Saturday, January 14, 2017.
