JERUSALEM – Today, November 29, 2017, H.E. Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, new Apostolic Nuncio to Israel, presented his credentials to Israeli president Reuven Rivlin at the President’s residence.
Newly appointed Ambassadors to Israel also presented their Letters of Credence to the president; Mr. Magnus Hellgren from Sweden, Mr. Joao-Bernardo de Oliveira Martins Weinstein from Portugal and Mr. Bernardo Greiver from Uruguay.
On September 13, 2017, His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed H.E. Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Israel and Apostolic Delegate in Jerusalem and Palestine. Two days later, on September 15, he was appointed as new Apostolic Nuncio in Cyprus.
After serving as Apostolic Nuncio to Singapore, Archbishop Girelli replaces Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto, who have served in this position since 2012.
