Deacon Salem Lolas ordained Latin Patriarchate priest in Bethlehem
Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate, was the main celebrant of the Mass on Friday, June 16, and ordained Deacon Salem Lolas to the Priesthood, at St. Catherine Church. Bishops, clergy, men and women religious, family and friends of the new priest, Mr. Nicola Khamis, Mayor of Beit Jala and a large number of faithful were present for the ordination.
In his homily Archbishop Pizzaballa spoke to Deacon Lolas about the importance of accepting the Holy Spirit , “Our great day-to-day work is to welcome the Spirit within us, and to gradually let the Spirit into the events of life put forth before us, of new feelings and thoughts in us, like those of Christ.”
“That is why today nothing else happens except a renewed outpouring of the Spirit upon you, because this is all you really need. Everything else you can and you have to renounce, to receive this gift alone, and make more and more space for this gift. To be a priest of Christ means to live with Him, to put on – as I said and as the apostle says – His own thoughts and feelings. It means that as people think and see you, they must praise the Lord and that is sufficient! ”
