The Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land (AOCTS) welcomes the opening of the American University of Madaba. The Assembly conveyed its appreciation and best wishes to His Beatitude Fouad Twal, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem in a letter dated  November 3rd:

During the last plenary assembly of October 26-27, the Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land remembered the most important events with regard to the life of the Church in this region. The opening of the new American University of Madaba belonging to the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem was one of them. We shared your joy and the joy of the Academic staff and students as well.

During our two days meeting, You, Beatitude,  represented us and the Church of the Holy Land in the Assisi encounter in an atmosphere of peace and inter-religious dialogue. For that we remembered what His Holiness Benedict XVI said in Madaba during the blessing of the corner stone of the Latin Patriarchate University: “You are called to be builders of a just and peaceful society composed of peoples of various religious and ethnic backgrounds. These realities must lead, not to division, but to mutual enrichment. The missions and the vocation of the University of Madaba is precisely to help you participate more fully in this noble task.”

We, Pastors of the Dioceses or Exarchates of the Holy Land, together express  our sincere wishes for this important project. We bring into our prayers the three important objectives of this new university: developing the talents of students, instilling in them a love of truth, reaching a high level of intellectual formation. At the same time, we express our appreciation for the tremendous task the Latin Patriarchate assumes on its own, and encourages the staff at the University of Madaba to work hard for the good of young generations.

May God bless your efforts, Beatitude, and as well the commitment of Academic Personnel.”
