BEIT JALA – On Sunday, November 19, 2017, and on the occasion of the feast of Saint Marie Alphonsine Gattas; the daughter of Palestine and the founder of the Rosary Sisters, Our Lady of Annunciation church in Beit Jala celebrated a solemn Mass presided by parish priest Fr. Hanna Massad and concelebrated by Fr. Issa Hijazeen and Deacon Ala’ Ba’eer. Moreover, parishioners celebrated the Palestinian Heritage day and Olive harvest season.
The solemn Mass started with the entrance procession of parishioners wearing the Palestinian traditional dress, as a reminder of the ancient history and culture of Palestine.
In his homily, Fr. Hanna highlighted the feast of Saint Mary Alphonsine, who had lived in sanctity serving the society. Also, on the occasion of olive harvest season, Fr. Hanna noted that “today we gather as a family around one table to eat from the produce of our country, especially oil and olives, that were generously donated by the parishioners.”
At the end of the mass, Fr. Hanna extended his gratitude to those who contributed to the success of this mass as well as to the people who donated oil, olives and bread, in addition to the traditional dresses that were lent by Ms. Maha Saqqa and Ms. Margo Zeidan.
After the mass, the parish community gathered in the Scouts Hall and shared their donations of oil, olives and bread.
Also, the Rosary Sisters celebrated the feast of Saint Mary Alphonsine in Our Lady of Rosary Church in Jerusalem during a solemn Mass, presided by Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa and concelebrated by Bishop Boulos Marcuzzo, Fr. Yacoub Rafidi, Fr. Nerwan Banna, and Fr. Joseph Sweiss, with the participation of religious men and women and some Latin Patriarchate seminarians.
