Archbishop Adolfo Yllana appointed new Apostolic Delegate in Jerusalem and Palestine and Apostolic Nuncio to Israel and Cyprus Available in the following languages:

VATICAN - June 3, 2021- His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed His Excellency Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana, Titular Archbishop of Montecorvino, as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Israel and Cyprus and Apostolic Delegate in Jerusalem and Palestine. Archbishop Yllana, who is till now Apostolic Nuncio to Australia, succeeds Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli.

Archbishop Yllana was born in Naga City in the Philippines on February 6, 1948. He was ordained a priest on March 19, 1972, and was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Cáceres (Philippines). 

He holds a Doctorate in Utroque lure (civil and church law). 

He entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See on February 1, 1984, and served in the Apostolic Nunciatures in Ghana, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Lebanon, Hungary and China. On December 13, 2001, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands, and on March 30, 2006, as Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan. Then, on November 20, 2010, he was appointed to the Democratic Republic of Congo and, subsequently, on February 17, 2015, as Apostolic Nuncio to Australia. 

He speaks English, Spanish and French.
