BETHLEHEM – On Saturday, September 14, celebrations were held for the solemnity of the Holy Cross at the Church of St. Francis located in the Basilica of the Nativity complex. This feast coincides with that of the religious Family of the Incarnate Word which has the Cross as its banner.

For the occasion, most of the members of the Religious Family of the Incarnate Word, present throughout the Holy Land, from Bethlehem, Beit Jala, Beit Sahour, Gaza, Jaffa and Sephoris came together.

Some priests of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the minor seminarians of the Patriarchal Seminary of Beit Jala took part in the Holy Mass. Also present were some sisters of other congregations and the employees and volunteers of the Hogar de Niño Dios, a facility where five Sisters of the Institute take care of more than 30 children with serious disabilities.

The Holy Mass was presided by Fr. Marcelo Gallardo IVE, a missionary in the Holy Land. At the end of the celebration refreshments were shared with those present, and postcards depicting the Cross of Matará (which distinguishes the female branch of the Institute) were distributed with an explanation of its meaning and its history.

During interviews, the sisters said they were happy to have had the enormous grace of being able to celebrate the day of “their banner”, the Holy Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ, a few meters from the place of His birth.

In the afternoon, the religious of the Institute celebrated solemn vespers and continued the feast at the Hogar Nino Dios, gathering for dinner in a jovial family spirit.
