NAZARETH - On Thursday, September 21, 2023, His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, presided over a Mass in the Church of the French Hospital, on the occasion of the feast of Saint Vincent de Paul (Founder of the Lazarists Fathers and Daughters of Charity, known for his charity and compassion for the poor). And in celebration of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the hospital. The celebration was attended by Sr. Catrice, Mother General of the Sisters of Charity in the Middle East, Fr. Anton Nakad, Spiritual assistant of the sisters, and a number of priests.
In his homily, Mgr Pizzaballa recognized the great service provided by the Hospital to the people of Nazareth. He highlighted the importance of having a cheerful heart that is willing to work and give unto others without expecting to receive a reward or recognition. "Take Saint Vincent as an example for you as he devoted all his time and effort to doing good and spreading the love of God, by building hospitals and opening shelters to receive the elderly, caring for homeless children, and visiting prisoners, all while talking to them about the Gospel and guiding them to Christ".
To conclude, His Beatitude said: "What distinguishes this hospital is that we do not deal with numbers, but with patients, who we know, love, and serve in different ways, which is a kind of evangelization of the love of Christ to the world".
The mass was followed by the consecration of a new department in the hospital that cares for children with critical cases.
