TAYBEH – On Friday, February 4, Mgr Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, went to Taybeh to celebrate a Mass for the Youth and to meet the newly appointed committee members of the General Secretariat of Christian Youth in Palestine (YJHP).

Because of the pandemic, strict rules of social distancing, number limitations and mask-wearing had to be applied during the event, especially inside the church of the Holy Redeemer, where the celebration took place. Nevertheless, many young men and women came to attend the ceremony, during which the names of the new members of the Secretariat were announced.

In his homily, Mgr Pizzaballa encouraged the youth to spread their message of joy and hope. “Our society needs leaders,” he declared afterward. “So I hope the people who were appointed today will bring vision and action to our various communities throughout Palestine.”

The YJHP’s aim is not only to bring together the Christian Youth of Palestine, but also to extend a hand to the ones who aren’t close to the Church, to let them know they can be a part of it. It also strives to bring up a new generation of young leaders who are active members of society, the Church and their families. Emphasis is thus placed on volunteer work and sports and other types of projects, with a specific focus on their social, spiritual and humanitarian aspects.

As one of the young newly appointed members of the General Secretariat of the YJHP puts it, “Now I feel like the purpose I’ve been sensing since I was born is becoming clearer to me. I feel God’s hand in my life that is guiding me forward.”
