BEIT JALA - For the month of July 2020, the Latin Patriarchal Seminary priests had decided to send the Major Seminary students on a pastoral service in the parishes and institutions of the Jerusalem Diocese. With this step, the Seminary prepares the students for the primary aspects of priestly formation; human, spiritual, academic, and pastoral. This in turn prepares the seminarians for the many facets of pastoral life and pastoral ministry.
Speaking to the Media Office of the Latin Patriarchate, Yazan Bader, a student in his 4th year who was assigned to help in the Archives of the Latin Patriarchate, said: “I think that the pastoral experience is very important. It is a reflection to what we have been studying in the past years, and now we can apply it on the ground. It is a great opportunity for a seminarian to discover the fruits of his own vocation”.
The experience allows the seminarians to serve with the parish priests and help him in the daily pastoral life and activities inside the parish. They help with the youth groups, Scouts, choirs, visiting parishioners, and other activities as requested by the priest.
Usually, the seminarians are appointed during the month of July specifically to participate and help in the summer camps organized in parishes. Unfortunately, this year the camps were canceled due to the fear of the spread of Coronavirus among the parishioners.
As for the seminarians who were sent to the institutions and the Patriarchate, they work with the Chancellor and the Archives Director, and they’re also assigned other tasks upon requests in aim of enriching their administrative and liturgical experience.
