JERUSALEM - On July 15, 2020, at the Carmel of the Pater Noster, community elections of the Carmelites of the Pater Noster in Jerusalem were held. It was an occasion to elect Sr.  Agathe Marie of the Eucharist as their new Prioress in the person of, as well as the three counselors who will accompany her in her new function.

The Carmelites of Pater Noster organized their community elections on July 15, 2020, the day of the Dedication of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher, at the end of which the contemplative nuns elected Sr. Agathe Marie as the new prioress of the community. A French religious, originally from Carmel de Muret near Toulouse, Sr. Agathe Marie of the Eucharist arrived in the Holy Land in 2011 at the request of the Fr. General des Carmes.

This day also saw the election of Sr. Anne Myriam of Jesus Risen (first counselor), Sr. Marie Agnes of Christ (second counselor) and Sr. Marie Victoire of the Infant Jesus (third counselor).

Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, contacted Sr. Marie Agathe to congratulate her and wish her a blessed mandate. Bishop Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo, Patriarchal Vicar for Jerusalem and Palestine, for his part, went to the Monastery the next day, the feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, to congratulate the new Prioress and to meet with the community.

Four in number, the Carmels of the Holy Land now form a federation to which is added three other Carmels, that of Fayoum in Egypt, that of Tangier in Morocco, and that of Aleppo in Syria. This federation publishes a newsletter ("Carmel in the Middle-East and North Africa") every four months and operates a website.
