RAMEH – On May 7, a patriarchal delegation of Bishop Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo, some Latin priests from Galilee and the local Rosary Sisters went to Rameh to congratulate Mr. Fayez Hanna, who has just been promoted to “Mutassarref (Prefect) of the Haifa region.
Mr. Hanna, 42, and father of three children, is an active member of the Latin community of Rameh. After studying at the Patriarchate’s elementary school, he attended the public secondary school in the village and eventually obtained a degree in public administration at the university.
The Mutassarref in Israel is a prestigious and sensitive administrative post, which controls, especially on behalf of the Ministry of the Interior, the general public and tax administration, municipal councils and major projects of common interest. It is a renewable four-year term.
During this pastoral visit, various matters and issues were discussed, including Christian involvement in public life, which is precisely one of the main lines of the pastoral work of the local church. Bishop Marcuzzo, on behalf of the Apostolic Administrator and the entire Latin Patriarchate family, presented a gift to the new Mutassarref: the albums of the pilgrimages of Popes in the Holy Land. This gift is also a sign of recognition for all the times that he has personally intervened to solve some administrative problems that the local community has encountered.
Today, the Hanna family lives in the same house where the first Latin priest of Rameh was installed, the parents of Fayez explain to us with joy and pride. At the time, it served as a church and a school for the first Latin community of this village.
