HAIFA – Friday April 21, 2017 – A Thanksgiving Mass was held on Friday, April 21, 2017, in the Latin church of Haifa on the occasion of appointing Mr. Wadie Abu Nassar, advisor and media spokesperson of the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land, as honorary consul of Spain in Haifa and the North.
The mass, which was presided by HB Patriarch Michel Sabbah, was attended by Bishop George Bacouni, president of the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land; Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate; Bishop Boulos Marcuzzo, Patriarchal Vicar of Nazareth; Bishop Kamal Bathish; Rt. Rev. Salim Soussan of the Maronite Church; Rev. Enrique Castro, O.C.D., the General Delegate of Order of the Discalced Carmelites and hundreds of priests.
Also present were Mr. Fernando Carderera, Spain’s Ambassador to Israel; Mr. Lars Faaborg-Andersen, the EU ambassador to Israel; Mr Carlos Garcia, Argentina’s Ambassador to Israel; Mr. Jacek Chodorowicz, Poland’s Ambassador to Israel and ambassadors from Macedonia, Kazakhstan, Philippines, Chile and Latvia. General Consuls from Sweden, Japan and Slovakia have as well attended the ceremony in addition to Supreme Court Judge Mr. Salim Joubran; Professor Yair Levitschitz, Chairman of the International Relations Committee in Haifa municipality and Muslim and Baha’i representatives.
In his homily, HB Patriarch Emeritus Michel Sabbah emphasized that Christians must work diligently to build their society while thanking Mr. Abu Nassar for the significant services that he continues to render for the Church and society.
The advisor of the ACOHL then assured that he would use his new position to continue contributing to society and human well-being.
On March 30, 2017, Mr. Abu Nassar was appointed honorary consul of Spain in Haifa and the North at the request of the Spanish Embassy in Tel Aviv.
