FUHEIS – On Thursday, June 22, two new priests were ordained in the parish church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Fuheis, Jordan.
In a crowded church – in an atmosphere tinged first with emotion and then with fervor of priests and faithful – Fathers Joseph Sweiss, a native of Fuheis and Saqer Hijazeen, a native of Smakiyeh, were ordained.
The ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, and concelebrated by Bishop William Shomali, Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan, Bishop Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo, Patriarchal Vicar for Jerusalem, Bishops Emeritus of Jordan Bishop Salim Sayegh and Bishop Maroun Lahham, in the presence of many priests, from all over the Patriarchate as well as from Jordanian parishes, and many seminarians.
During a particularly intense and moving sermon delivered, on behalf of the Apostolic Administrator, Bishop Shomali recalled that being a priest is the total gift of himself, of his life, in discretion, humility and love of the persons entrusted to him. The bishop stressed the need to live in communion with the Church and its members.
To these two ordinations in the Vicariate of Jordan is added that of the Father Salem Lolas who was ordained last week in Palestine.
