KRAKOW – On September 15, 2017, the Veritatis Splendor International Conference was held at the Jagiellonian University of Cracow. It was part of the three-day program of the congress for international solidarity.
The encyclical, Veritatis Splendor, of Pope John Paul II was honored Friday, September 15 at the congress for international solidarity in Cracow. Several interventions were offered to the students concerning cultural and intercultural dialogue, the life of Pope John Paul II, and the policy of the Vatican during his Pontificate. The students met main speakers in this intercultural dialogue such as: H.E. Cardinal Emeritus Stanislaw Dziwisz, Father Segundo Tejado, Representative of Cardinal Perer Turkson, Prefect of the Dicastery for the full human development service, Bishop Giacinto Boulos Marcuzzo, Patriarchal Vicar in Jerusalem and Palestine, H.B Gregorio III, Patriarch Emeritus of the Greek Catholic Church, Anna Suchoka, former minister and former ambassador of Poland to the Holy See, and filmmaker Krzysztof Zanussi.
Every two years the diocesan parish, which organizes this annual congress, offers a prize to a person who has distinguished him/herself in the exercise of intercultural dialogue. Last year Sr. Rosemary Nyirumbe of Uganda received this award for the creation and management of an organization that helps battered women overcome their problems. She was also present this year for a conference entitled “Unite Your Dreams and Your Dignity”. Next year, Sister Rosemary will be succeeded by a person who is distinguished by their activity in intercultural dialogue.
A concert for students, hosting local artists from the Carpathian Mountains, closed this great congress. It put the finishing touches to three days of conferences dedicated to international solidarity.
