On Monday, November 2, 2026, H.B. Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, presided over the Mass for All Souls’ Day at the Pro-Cathedral of the Latin Patriarchate. The celebration was attended by Msgr. William Shomali, General Vicar; Msgr. Bolous-Marcuzzo; priests; Mr. Johny Zeidan, CEO; employees of the Latin Patriarchate; and representatives of other Catholic institutions in the area.
At the beginning of the Mass, Msgr. William Shomali read the names of the deceased for whom the participants offered their prayers, entrusting their souls to the Lord and asking for their eternal rest.
In an atmosphere of prayer and faith, the assembly listened to the Word of God and joined in the readings and psalms, drawing strength from the hope of God’s mercy and justice.
In his homily, Cardinal Pizzaballa expressed his closeness to those who have recently lost loved ones and remembered those who have died amid ongoing violence. He reflected on death as a reality that touches human life, while faith in the Resurrection offers the hope of being reunited with those we continue to love.
“Death is something of which we are certain, even though we know little about what happens beyond it. Despite our faith, death remains a human loss; it brings grief because of separation. And this grief reveals that we have truly loved. We may carry regrets over words left unsaid or apologies never offered, but we entrust all of this to Our Lord and to His mercy.”
The Mass concluded with the community united in prayer, commending the souls of the departed to God’s infinite mercy and asking Him to grant them eternal rest and the joy of life in His Kingdom.
